Rapid coach Daniel Pancu has been reported to the National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD) for statements directed at U Cluj coach Cristiano Bergodi. The regulatory body is now reviewing the conduct of the Rapid manager following these official reports.
A total of three separate complaints were filed against Pancu. These filings specifically address his criticism of Bergodi, which included references to the U Cluj coach being a foreigner. The nature of these remarks formed the basis for the discrimination claims.
The incident that triggered the complaints took place on 7 February 2026. It occurred after the conclusion of a Liga 1 match between CFR Cluj and U Cluj. The game ended with a 3-2 scoreline in favor of CFR Cluj.
Tensions were high following the final whistle. U Cluj coach Cristiano Bergodi physically attacked CFR players Andrei Cordea and Karlo Muhar after the match. This altercation was part of the broader post-match events.
Pancu responded to the news of the complaints by stating he has no defense to offer. He claimed that his remarks were not discriminatory. Despite this assertion, the formal process at the CNCD continues.
The president of the CNCD indicated that the case will take time to be judged. This timeline was reported by fanatik.ro. No immediate resolution or sanction has been announced as the review proceeds.
