How does the Romanian SuperLiga work?

SuperLiga is Romania’s top football division, also known as Liga 1. Its 16 clubs play 30 regular-season rounds, meeting each opponent home and away. The top six then contest the championship play-off; the other ten enter the play-out. Finishing first before the split does not settle the title.

How do the SuperLiga play-offs work?

The six play-off clubs meet home and away again, adding ten rounds. The team that finishes first in this group wins the championship. A title-group club therefore plays 40 league matches: 30 before the split and ten afterwards.

Are points halved after the regular season?

Yes. LPF confirms that regular-season points are halved when teams enter either the play-off or the play-out. For example, 60 points becomes 30 before second-stage results are added. The gap between teams consequently narrows: a ten-point lead becomes five points when both totals divide evenly.

Read the points shown for the named phase in the official table. Do not add the full regular-season total to the play-off total or compare points across the two separate groups.

How many teams are relegated from SuperLiga?

The play-out contains the ten clubs that finished seventh to sixteenth. They play each other once, adding nine rounds. The bottom two in that group—ninth and tenth—go down directly. Seventh and eighth face Liga 2 opponents in promotion/relegation play-offs.

These are play-out positions, not places in the original 16-team table. A club’s regular-season position alone does not decide relegation.

When do the 2026–27 play-offs start?

FRF’s calendar places the first play-off and play-out weekend on 20–21 March 2027. The last championship play-off round is scheduled for 29–30 May. These are round windows; an individual match can receive a different appointment.

How do Romanian clubs qualify for Europe?

European qualification is a separate question from the league split. League results, the Romanian Cup, domestic qualification play-offs and UEFA’s season-specific access rules all matter. A coloured position in today’s table is not confirmation of a European place.
