Rapid defeated Universitatea Cluj 4-3 in an away match during the final game of Superliga round 11 on Monday evening. The victory allowed Rapid to move up to second place in the table with 24 points, while Universitatea Cluj remained in fifth place with 18 points.
Universitatea Cluj took an early lead in the second minute through Macalou. The goal came after goalkeeper Ungureanu saved a shot from Ștefănescu. Rapid responded quickly, equalizing in the 13th minute with a header from Kamara assisted by Moruțan.
Stojilković gave Rapid the lead in the 24th minute. He scored again after halftime, converting Moruțan's third assist to extend the visitors' advantage. Drammeh reduced the deficit for Universitatea Cluj in the 54th minute.
Codrea headed an equalizer for Universitatea Cluj in the 82nd minute, making the score 3-3. However, Răzvan Onea scored for Rapid in the 88th minute to secure the 4-3 win.
Head coach Cristiano Bergodi stated he would not discuss his contract extension, which is set to expire next summer. He said he has not talked about contracts since winter and intends to focus only on team matters until his deal ends.
Despite conceding four goals, Bergodi described the performance as one of the best matches his team had played. He attributed the loss to individual mistakes, specifically pointing to a defensive error when the score was 2-1.
Bergodi substituted Cristea because he believed the player made a mistake that led to the goal making it 2-1. He also noted that Rapid coach Daniel Pancu introduced a defender to play with five at the back when the score was level at 3-3.
Bergodi suggested that Rapid is likely to compete for the top three places in the league. He signed with Universitatea Cluj on October 23, 2025, after leaving Rapid. Under his command, the team has played 45 matches, recording 25 wins, 5 draws, and 15 losses, with 81 goals scored and 68 conceded.
