Ianis Stoica misses penalty and has goal disallowed in Estrela Amadora defeat

Estrela Amadora lost to Arouca with a score of 0-1 in the eighth round of the Portuguese championship on Sunday evening. The defeat marked the second consecutive loss for the club.

Romanian forward Ianis Stoica had a particularly frustrating outing. He missed a penalty kick for his team in the 45th minute plus four seconds of added time.

Video assistant referee technology also intervened against Estrela Amadora earlier in the match. In the 32nd minute, VAR annulled a penalty decision for the club because Stoica was judged to be offside by one centimeter.

Another goal chance was denied shortly after. In the 43rd minute, VAR disallowed a goal scored by Rafa Soares for Estrela Amadora. The decision was made because Stoica was offside by 13 centimeters during the play.

Stoica was substituted in the 61st minute. This appearance marked his second consecutive match without scoring a goal.

This fixture was Stoica's first match since he was excluded from the Romania national squad. Coach Gheorghe Hagi did not call him up for the recent Nations League matches.

Despite this result, Stoica remains among the top scorers in the league. He ranks sixth in the Portuguese league with four goals. Vangelis Pavlidis leads with eight goals, followed by Luis Suarez with seven.

Before this match, Stoica had recorded four goals and provided two assists in the first six rounds of the season. Estrela Amadora acquired him from Hermannstadt in the summer of 2025 for a fee of 1.3 million euros.

Following these two consecutive defeats, Estrela Amadora holds 10 points. The club currently occupies ninth place in the standings.
