Eugen Trică has identified Rapid as his preferred candidate to secure the Superliga championship in the 2026/2027 season. The former footballer made the declaration in an interview, stating that the Giulești-based club is his favorite to triumph at the end of the campaign. Trică attributed his preference to the atmosphere within the stadium and the overall environment surrounding the team.
Rapid currently shares the top position in the league standings alongside Dinamo ahead of the thirteenth round of matches. Under the guidance of head coach Daniel Pancu, the team has recorded six consecutive victories. This recent run of form includes a 2-0 victory over Corvinul Hunedoara, although Trică noted he did not attend that specific match due to a prior commitment in Râmnicu Vâlcea.
A title victory for Rapid would end a drought lasting more than two decades, as the club's last league triumph occurred in the 2002-2003 season. During that previous championship era, Trică was playing for Steaua. Rapid holds three league titles in its history, making a potential win in 2026/2027 a significant milestone for the supporters.
Trică also commented on the situation involving Universitatea Craiova, asserting that the current entity was established in 2013. He expressed support for Adrian Mititelu’s FC U in the ongoing dispute regarding heritage. Trică claimed that FC U had successfully won the rights to the logo and historical palmares in court, distinguishing it from Clubul Sportiv Universitatea Craiova.
