Bergodi held a three-hour discussion with club president Radu Constantea, which resulted in a mutual understanding. The coach expressed his desire to lead the team through the play-off phase of the Superligă campaign.
The announcement followed a convincing 3-0 away victory for Universitatea Cluj against Corvinul in round 13 of the Superligă. The win helped solidify the team's position in the upper half of the table.
Jovo Lukic scored all three goals for U Cluj in the match. He opened the scoring in the fourth minute and added two more late in the game, finding the net in the 81st and 90th minutes.
Corvinul had early chances to equalize but failed to convert. Player Manolache hit the crossbar with a header in the 11th minute, keeping the scoreline favorable for the visitors.
U Cluj continued to press throughout the match. Marius Ștefănescu came close to adding another goal when his header struck the crossbar in the 64th minute.
Following the win, Universitatea Cluj is ranked fifth in the Superligă with 22 points. The team remains in a play-off position after 13 rounds of fixtures.
Dinamo leads the Superligă with 29 points, sitting seven points ahead of Universitatea Cluj. The gap highlights the challenge for U Cluj as they aim to maintain their top-six status.
Florin Maxim's team is currently ranked ninth in the Superligă with 16 points. This places them further down the table compared to the leaders and the top contenders.
Despite the recent success, Bergodi expressed regret that Universitatea Cluj did not earn more points in previous matches. He specifically cited games against Rapid and FC Argeș as opportunities where the team could have secured better results.
