Cristiano Bergodi has confirmed that he considered resigning from his position at U Cluj earlier in the week but chose to remain after a lengthy discussion with club leadership. The coach stated he plans to stay with the team until the end of the championship following a three-hour meeting with club president Radu Constantea.

Bergodi admitted he was very upset following recent results, which sparked rumors of his imminent departure. He specifically cited disappointment with the draw against FC Argeș and missed points in the match against Rapid as key factors in his frustration.

The decision to stay comes immediately after U Cluj secured a 3-0 victory over Corvinul Hunedoara in the 13th round of the Superliga on Friday, 23 October 2026. The win moved U Cluj to fifth place in the table with 22 points, four points ahead of FCSB, while Corvinul remains in ninth place with 16 points.

Jovo Lukic was the standout performer in the match, scoring a hat-trick with goals in the 4th, 81st, and 90th minutes. This performance brought his seasonal total to six goals, placing him fourth in the top scorers' ranking. Bergodi praised Lukic for leading the team effectively despite missing three weeks of summer preparation due to World Cup duties.

Lukic offered a modest assessment of the victory, stating that he felt lucky because Corvinul passed the ball very well. He compared the opposition's style of play to that of Barcelona. Defender Ștefan Lefter also highlighted the clean sheet kept by U Cluj during the match.

The match marked a significant milestone for Ionuț Cristea, who played his 300th Superliga game. Cristea originally debuted in the league on 27 July 2014 for Botoșani. Bergodi, who has been with U Cluj for one year and coached 47 matches, also praised Corvinul coach Florin Maxim as very good.

Looking ahead, U Cluj is scheduled to face CFR in the Cup and FCSB in the championship in their upcoming fixtures. Bergodi has stated his aim is to lead the team into the play-off stage.
