Al-Gharafa coach Pedro Martins has dropped Florinel Coman from the squad for the recent match against league leaders Al-Rayyan. The Portuguese manager did not give the Romanian forward any playing time, keeping him on the bench throughout the game. This exclusion marks a significant deterioration in the relationship between the player and the coach, who have reportedly never been close since Coman's arrival.
The decision follows a period of poor performance by Coman, who has failed to score in seven appearances for Al-Gharafa this season. In total, he has played only 362 minutes across various competitions without finding the net. The lack of offensive contribution has coincided with difficult results for the club, which has suffered six defeats in ten matches.
The match against Al-Rayyan ended in a 0-0 draw, a result that leaves Al-Gharafa in the relegation zone. The team currently sits in tenth place out of twelve in the Qatar Stars League, with only five points after six rounds. The game was also marked by the dismissal of coach Pedro Martins, who was sent off after protesting a penalty decision involving Brahimi.
Coman's current crisis at club level poses a risk to his international career. Due to his low performance and status as a reserve at Al-Gharafa, there are concerns that he could be omitted from the Romanian national team squad. Romania is scheduled to face Poland on November 14 and Bosnia on November 17, and Coman's inclusion is now uncertain given his lack of playing time.
