Mircea Rednic is considering a return to football management after receiving two offers from clubs outside Romania. The 64-year-old coach confirmed the interest but stated he is not rushing to make a decision. He has been without a club for 14 months, having last worked in August 2025.
Rednic said he has held discussions with representatives in Romania but remains focused on the proposals from abroad. He emphasized that he wants to take his time to ensure he makes the best possible choice for his next career step. His priority is to select the right project rather than accept an offer immediately.
The coach’s most recent role was at Standard Liege in Belgium. He joined the club in October 2012 and left in June 2013 during his first stint, having also played there for five years as a footballer. His second period with the Belgian side ended in late August 2025 following a series of poor results.
During his final spell at Standard Liege, Rednic earned seven points from the first three stages of the Belgian league. His team secured a 2-0 victory over RAAL La Louviere and a 2-1 win against Genk. They also drew 1-1 with Dender before his departure.
The termination of his contract came after consecutive 0-3 defeats to Royale Union Saint Gilloise and Cercle Brugge. These losses led to his dismissal in late August 2025. Since then, he has remained inactive, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
Rednic has an extensive coaching resume that includes spells at Rapid, Dinamo, CFR Cluj, Gent, and Khazar Lankaran, among others. He has won five major trophies as a manager, including Liga 1 titles with Rapid in 2003 and Dinamo in 2007.
His trophy cabinet also includes the Romanian Cup with Rapid in 2002, the Romanian Super Cup with the same club in 2003, and the Azerbaijan Cup with Khazar Lankaran in 2016. As a player, he earned 83 caps for the Romania national team and participated in EURO 1984 and the 1990 World Cup.
Despite his break from the sidelines, Rednic continues to analyze matches in the Romanian league. He recently commented on the 2-2 draw between CFR Cluj and Dinamo, noting that Marius Șumudică effectively blocked spaces against Nuno Campos’ team. He observed that Dinamo lacked a decisive player, with Cîrjan being a notable exception, and pointed out that the absence of Pascual affected their threat from set pieces.
