FCSB secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Rapid in a recent Superliga fixture, marking a significant setback for the Giulesti-based club. The defeat represents Rapid's first loss away from home during the current campaign. Despite the heavy scoreline, the team remains in second place in the league standings, holding a three-point advantage over Dinamo.
Mihai Iosif, who served as a coach and staff member at Rapid from July 2017 to March 2022, provided his assessment of the match. He acknowledged the anger within the squad but characterized the result as an anomaly rather than a systemic failure. Iosif expressed hope that this defeat would remain an exception to the positive trajectory established by current head coach Daniel Pancu.
Analyzing the tactical flow, Iosif noted that Rapid dominated the first half, with FCSB appearing incapable of creating serious scoring opportunities. However, the dynamic shifted dramatically after the break. The former coach criticized Rapid's lack of reaction following the conceded goals, stating that the players displayed insufficient determination and failed to press effectively in the second period.
Iosif pointed to Rapid's previous form as a reason for optimism, highlighting their streak of five consecutive victories before this match. He suggested that this recent success could help the team recover mentally from the disappointment. The league position remains precarious, as Rapid could drop to third place if Universitatea Craiova manages to avoid defeat in their upcoming match against Sepsi.
