Gică Popescu has acquired a controlling interest in Farul Constanța following share transactions with former majority owner Gheorghe Hagi and sporting director Zoltan Iașko. The transfers took place during a meeting on February 10, 2026, reshaping the club's ownership structure significantly.

Popescu now holds 105,002 shares, which represents 70 percent of the club's social capital. This position makes him the primary shareholder of the Romanian top-flight side.

The bulk of the acquisition came from Gheorghe Hagi, who sold 104,850 shares to Popescu. These shares accounted for 69.9 percent of the company's capital. The nominal value of this block was 14,679,000 lei, which is approximately 2.88 million euros.

Hagi decided to cede the majority stake to take up the role of Romania national team coach. The move was intended to avoid any potential conflict of interest between his new international duties and his club responsibilities.

Despite selling the majority of his holdings, Hagi remains involved with the club. He retained a 10 percent minority stake in Farul Constanța after the transaction was completed.

Zoltan Iașko also participated in the share sale. He sold all 152 of his shares to Popescu on the same day. These shares represented 0.1 percent of the club's capital and had a nominal value of 21,280 lei.

Although he exited the shareholding structure, Iașko continues to work for the club. He remains in his position as Farul's sporting director.

Other existing shareholders were required to waive their preemption rights to allow the transfers to proceed. Ciprian Marica and Rivaldo both waived these rights for the deals involving Hagi and Iașko.

Rivaldo maintains an interest in the club through R10 Events LLC. This entity holds a 10 percent stake in Farul Constanța, mirroring the portion retained by Hagi.
