Universitatea Craiova has confirmed it will not appeal the recent decision by the FRF Disciplinary Commission regarding Laurențiu Reghecampf. The commission cleared the FCSB coach of guilt concerning an unpaid debt to the club. Craiova stated it would not take the case to the Appeal Court or the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The disciplinary body issued its ruling on Wednesday evening, October 14, 2026. The decision officially closed the case against Reghecampf. This outcome follows the full settlement of a financial dispute that had threatened the coach's career in Romanian football.

Reghecampf returned to FCSB last month for his third stint as head coach. His appointment was contingent on resolving a long-standing debt. Until the full payment of the outstanding clause, regulations prohibited him from coaching in Romania. The FRF had previously granted him a dispensation to allow him to manage the team while the legal process continued.

The debt originated from a termination clause incurred in September 2023. Reghecampf left Universitatea Craiova after seven matches to join Al Tai in Saudi Arabia. Mihai Rotaru, representing Craiova, had sought to prevent the coach from claiming the 200,000 euro sum. A commission dispute was won by Craiova via a decision dated February 1, 2024.

A February 2024 ruling stated that Reghecampf could face a ban of up to two years if he failed to meet his obligations. Article 85 of the FRF Disciplinary Regulation mandates such sanctions for failing to execute definitive decisions within 30 days. It also stipulates exclusion from football activities if obligations are not met within two years of the final decision.

Reghecampf had paid only approximately 50,000 euros of the total 200,000 euro debt. Universitatea Craiova originally sought his exclusion for failing to pay the remaining 150,000 euros on time. The club also requested a 17,000 euro late payment penalty, which Reghecampf and FCSB owner Gigi Becali refused.

FCSB completed the payment of the remaining debt in October 2026 to register the coach's contract. Gigi Becali covered the balance to enable Reghecampf's move. Mihai Stoica stated that the sum is now fully settled and that Reghecampf acted in good faith over the two-year period.

Lucian Burchel, head of the FRF Coaches School, noted that this specific legal case is unprecedented in his tenure. Two and a half years passed between the initial FRF decision in March 2024 and the final debt payment. Reghecampf, who is 51 years old, continues his activity at FCSB after avoiding suspension.
