Florin Prunea stated that Gică Hagi is the greatest Romanian footballer of all time. The former international goalkeeper made the declaration in an interview published by iAMsport.

Prunea has significant experience at the highest level of international football. He earned 41 caps for the Romanian national team during his career.

His international record includes participation in four major final tournaments. Prunea represented Romania at the World Cup in 1994 and 1998, as well as the European Championship in 1996 and 2000.

The interview also touched on historical events involving Hagi. Prunea refused to reveal the reason for Hagi's mysterious suspension in 1989 while the player was at Steaua.

Prunea claimed that everyone in football knows why Hagi was suspended in 1989. However, he declined to share the specific information publicly.

Hagi holds a prominent place in Romanian football records. He is tied with Adi Mutu as the country's all-time top scorer with 35 goals scored between 1983 and 2001.

In terms of appearances, Hagi is the second most capped player in Romania's history. He made 124 appearances for the national team, trailing only Dorinel Munteanu, who has 134 caps.
