The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has been promised $25 million in funding from FIFA for the 2027-2031 period. This allocation represents an increase of $15 million compared to the previous financial cycle. The announcement confirms that the national governing body will benefit from a broader plan to boost resources for member associations.
During the 2022-2026 period, the FRF received a total of $10 million from FIFA. The new commitment more than doubles this amount. This change aligns with a global initiative by the world governing body to raise financial support for its members.
FIFA plans to distribute increased funds to all 211 of its member federations. Each association is scheduled to receive more than double the amount provided in the previous four-year cycle. This widespread increase forms part of the organization's updated financial framework.
Reports from The Times suggest how the additional funds might be allocated within Romania. According to this outlet, $10 million could be directed toward operational costs. Another $10 million may be designated for specific projects, while $5 million might support women's and youth football initiatives. These figures remain unconfirmed reports rather than official breakdowns.
The funding announcement comes ahead of the next FIFA presidential election. Gianni Infantino aims to retain his position as president. The vote is scheduled to take place on March 18, 2027, in Rabat, Morocco. The timing of the financial pledges has drawn attention in the context of the upcoming electoral process.
Răzvan Burleanu serves as a member of the FIFA Council. His role places him within the decision-making structure of the international body. The increased funding for the FRF occurs during his tenure on the council.
