The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) has rejected a challenge brought by Ilie Drăgan against the eligibility of Răzvan Burleanu for the presidency of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF).
Following this verdict, Răzvan Burleanu continues his fourth term as president of the FRF.
The election results from March remain valid. In that vote, Burleanu received 258 votes, while Drăgan received five.
Ilie Drăgan initiated the legal challenge on 9 March, shortly before the FRF presidential elections took place.
Drăgan argued that Burleanu was ineligible because he had already served three mandates, which he claimed was the maximum allowed.
Burleanu defended his candidacy by stating that the three-mandate rule was added after his initial election in 2014.
Spanish arbitrator Kepa Larumbe was appointed to resolve the case after Frans de Weger withdrew from the proceedings.
Ilie Drăgan paid 25,000 euros in court fees from his own funds to support the action at TAS.
