The FRF Disciplinary Commission has banned Roger Junio Rodrigues Figueira from all football activities. The sanction lasts for up to two years and remains in effect until the player pays the debt owed to CFR Cluj. This decision enforces a previous ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, known as TAS.
The ban applies specifically within Romania. If the financial obligation remains unpaid, the suspension will expire on November 1, 2028. However, the restriction can be lifted immediately if the player settles the full amount determined by the arbitration court.
The dispute stems from Roger's unilateral termination of his contract with CFR Cluj in February 2023. He left the club before signing with Szentlorinc and later UTA. During his time at CFR Cluj, which lasted from February 2022 to February 2023, he won the Romanian championship title.
Roger initially claimed approximately 395,000 euros from CFR Cluj at FIFA for contract termination compensation and arrears. FIFA ordered the club to pay him around 104,000 euros, but CFR Cluj appealed this decision to TAS.
On September 24, 2024, TAS issued a final ruling. It ordered Roger and St. Lorinc KFT to jointly pay CFR Cluj 38,831.28 euros plus 5 percent annual interest calculated from February 2, 2023. The court also ordered CFR Cluj to pay Roger two separate net amounts with interest.
The FRF Disciplinary Commission states that the total debt owed by Roger amounts to 44,656 euros. Other sources suggest the remaining debt decreased to 30,900 euros after a compensation agreement signed on September 30, 2024, in which Roger renounced 7,000 euros. Reports indicate a joint payment obligation of approximately 30,000 euros was not fulfilled.
Despite the ongoing legal and disciplinary issues, Roger recently appeared for Corvinul Hunedoara. He played 80 minutes in a Romanian Cup Group A match against Rapid București, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Dragoș Albu replaced him in the 80th minute.
