Gigi Becali praises FC Voluntari striker Matko Babic after FCSB victory

FCSB owner Gigi Becali drew attention to FC Voluntari attacker Matko Babic after a recent league match between the two clubs. Becali described the striker as very strong in his post-match comments. This public praise has generated speculation regarding potential transfer interest from FCSB.

The comments followed a 2-1 victory for FCSB over FC Voluntari. Babic started the match for the visiting side. The result maintained FCSB's position in the domestic competition while handing Voluntari a defeat.

Babic had several opportunities to influence the scoreline during the game. In the 70th minute, he struck the post with a shot while the match was tied at 1-1. He also missed a header during the same period of play.

FC Voluntari coach Florin Pârvu made a substitution involving Babic in the 83rd minute. Mihai Roman replaced the striker on the field. The change occurred late in the contest as Voluntari trailed by one goal.

Alexandru Stoian scored the only goal for FC Voluntari in the match. His effort came in a game that ended in a 1-2 loss to FCSB. The goal provided a brief moment of parity before FCSB secured the win.

Becali also addressed other transfer topics during his remarks. He stated that there was no further interest in Remus Guțea. The owner noted that discussions regarding Guțea had taken place previously but were not ongoing.

Matko Babic joined FC Voluntari in the summer of 2025. He arrived on a free transfer from CSC Șelimbăr. The move added an experienced forward to the Voluntari squad ahead of the current campaign.

The striker is under contract with FC Voluntari until the summer of 2027. This agreement ensures his availability for the club for the remainder of the current season and the next. Any potential departure would require a negotiated settlement.

Babic has played for several clubs across Europe prior to his time in Romania. His career includes spells at NK Rudes, NK Radomlje, and FC Hermannstadt. He has also represented AEL Limassol, PAEEK Kyrenia, HNK Rijeka, Karvina, and Lokomotiva Zagreb.
