Coach Mihai Lungu suspended for one year after assault allegations in youth match

The Disciplinary Commission of the Vaslui County Football Association (AJF Vaslui) has suspended coach Mihai Lungu for one year. The commission also imposed a fine of 3,000 lei on the coach. This decision follows an investigation into an incident involving a young player.

Lungu faced accusations of choking a child from his team. The alleged incident occurred during a U14 match between ACS Husana Huși and Standard Vaslui. Reports indicate that physical contact took place on the sidelines of the game.

The match in question ended with a score of 2-5. ACS Husana Huși scored two goals, while Standard Vaslui scored five. The disciplinary action focuses on the conduct of the coach rather than the result of the fixture.

AJF Vaslui requested that the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) suspend Lungu’s license for two years. This longer suspension was contingent on the coach completing a safeguarding course. The local association sought a more severe penalty than the one it could impose directly.

Legal authorities have also become involved in the case. A criminal file was opened against Mihai Lungu for assault and other violence. The investigation concerns the incident that took place in Huși.

Mihai Lungu denies the accusations against him. He claims that the photo circulating as evidence is fixed. Lungu stated that he was only giving instructions to the child at the time.

Emil Dorin, the president of Standard Vaslui, supported the coach’s version of events. Dorin claimed that the child involved was Lungu’s nephew. He stated that they were playing and denied that any aggression occurred.
