The AJF Vaslui has started disciplinary procedures against Mihăiță Lungu, the coach of Standard Vaslui. This action follows reports that Lungu choked an under-14 player during a recent game. AJF Vaslui president Bogdan Gheorghiță confirmed the initiation of these measures.
The incident took place during a County Championship U14 match. The game featured ACS Hușana Huși against Standard Vaslui. Reports indicate the altercation occurred in the town of Huși.
Allegations suggest the physical assault was triggered by a mistake on the pitch. It is claimed that Lungu choked the junior player because of a wrong pass. These details remain unconfirmed allegations at this stage.
Bogdan Gheorghiță stated that a final decision regarding Mihăiță Lungu will be made soon. The president indicated that the outcome would be determined by Saturday at the latest. This timeline sets a clear deadline for the local association's internal process.
The case will also move to the national level. The General Secretary of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) will officially refer the matter to the FRF Discipline and Ethics Commission. This step ensures the incident is reviewed under national governing body regulations.
Current FRF regulations outline specific penalties for such conduct. Rules established in August 2024 allow for fines ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 lei for coaches who abuse minors. These financial penalties are part of the framework the commission will apply.
Beyond financial fines, coaches face potential suspension of their licenses. The regulations stipulate a suspension period of one to three years for abusing minors. To return to coaching, the individual must complete a safeguarding course.
Mihăiță Lungu currently holds a valid UEFA C License. This certification permits him to coach in U14 county competitions. His current credential status is relevant to the potential suspension penalties outlined by the FRF.
Lungu has a background as a former Liga 1 player. He is known for scoring the winning goal for Gloria Bistrița against Real Zaragoza in September 1994. This past achievement contrasts with the current serious allegations facing the coach.
