CFR Cluj has officially announced that defender Christopher Braun has extended his contract with the club for one more season. The announcement was made via the club's official channels, confirming that the 35-year-old will remain in Gruia. Braun has been a key figure for the team this term, having already made 16 appearances in the current campaign.
The news comes as a positive development for head coach Marius Șumudică, who had recently expressed frustration following a 1-0 away defeat to UTA. Reports indicated that Șumudică had considered leaving the club due to dissatisfaction with player attitudes and results. However, the retention of an experienced leader like Braun provides stability to the defensive line.
Braun returned to CFR Cluj in January 2026 on a free transfer after spending two and a half seasons with Rapid. His career in the Romanian Superliga includes 191 matches, during which he has scored three goals and provided eight assists. The club highlighted his leadership qualities and experience as vital assets for the upcoming fixtures.
CFR Cluj will look to build on this momentum in their next match against league leaders Dinamo. The game is scheduled for Sunday at 19:00 in Gruia. The club expressed confidence in Braun's ability to continue contributing to the team's defensive solidity and overall performance in the remainder of the season.
