CFR Cluj captain Ciprian Deac has dismissed reports suggesting that head coach Marius Șumudică intends to resign if the club suffers point deductions due to unresolved financial matters. Deac stated that Șumudică will not leave the club because their professional relationship remains positive.
The speculation arose after Șumudică previously stated that his collaboration with CFR Cluj would end if the team were deducted points. This comment heightened concerns among supporters regarding the stability of the coaching staff amidst ongoing administrative challenges.
CFR Cluj faces potential penalties alongside UTA and Petrolul Ploiești for failing to clarify their debt situations by the 30 June 2026 deadline. These regulatory issues have created uncertainty surrounding the clubs' standing in the Superliga.
On the pitch, CFR Cluj recently drew 2-2 with Dinamo in round 13 of the championship. The match saw CFR Cluj take a 2-0 lead before Dinamo equalized in the final part of the game.
The result leaves CFR Cluj in ninth place in the Superliga standings with 17 points accumulated. The team is preparing for its next fixture against Petrolul on Saturday, 31 October at 19:00 in Ploiești.
Deac also highlighted the significant roster changes the club has undergone this season. He noted that 20 players changed at CFR Cluj, including 11 starters who left the squad.
