CFR Cluj owner Neluțu Varga has established a firm price floor for any potential sale of the club. He stated that negotiations would begin at a minimum of 50 million euros. Varga emphasized that he would not accept a single euro less than this amount for his stake in the team.
This valuation comes as the club faces significant financial strain. CFR Cluj requested entry into insolvency on 20 August. The request was made due to financial problems that emerged at the start of the season. The move places the club under judicial administration to manage its debts and operations.
Judicial administrator Răzvan Zăvăleanu is currently handling the affairs of CFR Cluj. His role involves overseeing the club’s status following the formal insolvency request. This administrative step is part of the legal process initiated by the club’s management to address its fiscal challenges.
Prior to the insolvency filing, there were indications of a potential change in ownership. Neluțu Varga announced an agreement with Swiss national Hendrik Klein for the transfer of the club. This announcement was made two days before the club formally requested entry into insolvency proceedings.
Despite the earlier announcement, the deal with Klein did not conclude. The parties have not yet reached a common agreement regarding the transfer of CFR Cluj. The lack of a finalized contract suggests that discussions stalled or terms could not be mutually accepted by both sides.
Varga has been the owner of CFR Cluj since 2017. Over the years, he has remained willing to sell the club, but only under specific conditions. The current demand for 50 million euros represents one such condition for any future transaction involving his share package.
At present, Varga declared that he has no current intention to sell his share package. However, he left the door open for future possibilities. Offers may still be considered if they meet his financial requirements, but no immediate sale is planned by the owner.
