CFR Cluj lost 1-3 to U Cluj in the second stage of the Romanian Cup group phase. The match took place as part of the domestic cup competition.

Coach Marius Șumudică stated that all three goals conceded by his team resulted from individual errors. He described these mistakes as gifts given to the opponents.

Șumudică claimed that U Cluj is currently superior to CFR Cluj. He noted that the opposing team played with their standard best lineup while his side did not.

The coach explained that he removed eight players from the starting eleven due to a congested schedule. He cited medical issues for Cordea, Drazic, Ignat, Braun, and Simao as factors in his selection.

Șumudică highlighted the difference in upcoming fixtures. CFR Cluj plays on Saturday, while U Cluj plays on Monday against FCSB.

Financial constraints affected the team's travel. The squad traveled six hours by bus to Csikszereda and back within four days.

The coach linked recent results to fatigue. He attributed a 0-0 draw against Farul to a lack of freshness in the players.

CFR Cluj has three points remaining in their Cup group. They must defeat Concordia Chiajna in the final stage to maintain qualification hopes.

Șumudică expressed doubt about CFR Cluj qualifying for the next round. He predicted that U Cluj and Petrolul would advance from the group.

The coach stated he had no discussions after the match. He left for Bucharest on Thursday and thanked Marian Copilu, Zăvăleanu, and Varga for allowing his early departure.
