Camora cites rhythm loss and small details after CFR Cluj derby defeat

U Cluj defeated CFR Cluj with a score of 3-1 in the local derby on October 8, 2026. The match was a rescheduled fixture from the fourth round of the SuperLiga.

Stefan Drazic opened the scoring for CFR Cluj in the 12th minute. However, U Cluj responded with goals after halftime to secure the victory.

Issouf Macalou scored twice for the visitors, while Oucasse Mendy added another goal. This result marked the first home defeat for CFR Cluj in the SuperLiga in nearly a year.

CFR Cluj captain Mario Camora admitted that he made a mistake leading to the third goal conceded by his team. He is 39 years old and has been a long-serving figure for the club.

Camora stated that the loss came down to small details. He noted that a penalty goal scored by U Cluj significantly boosted their morale during the match.

The captain also pointed to the recent schedule as a factor. He expressed dissatisfaction with the three-week interruption for national team matches, stating it hurt the team's rhythm.

Despite the negative impact on team cohesion, Camora acknowledged that the break allowed players Sergiu Buș and Billel Omrani to recover physically. Marius Șumudică is the current trainer of CFR Cluj.

Ilie Dumitrescu commented on the match, praising a sensational player following the derby. His remarks were reported by media outlets covering the event.

Looking ahead to the next round of fixtures, CFR Cluj is scheduled to face FC Argeș. U Cluj will host Rapid in the 11th round of the SuperLiga.
