Francesco Totti offered strong support for Inter coach Cristi Chivu during a Panini press conference on 2026-10-21. The former Italy international described Chivu as a great coach who merits the opportunity to manage a big team like Inter.

The two men share a history from their time at AS Roma. Totti and Chivu were teammates at the Italian club for four years, spanning from 2003 to 2007.

Chivu made a significant contribution during his spell in the capital. He played 124 matches for AS Roma between 2003 and 2007. His record included six goals and four assists during that period.

Totti also commented on the current competitive landscape involving his former club. He stated that Roma can compete for the title. He added that they would be a difficult opponent for Inter.

The former striker highlighted the work of Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma. Totti named Gasperini as the best player of Roma. He praised the coach for his ability to create a compact group within the squad.

Inter recently faced a setback in European competition. The team lost 3-4 to Club Brugge at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium. This match took place in the Champions League.

Totti brings considerable experience to his commentary. He earned 58 selections for the Italian national team. He scored nine goals for his country and was part of the squad that became world champions in 2006.
