Costin Curelea is likely to leave his position as coach of the Romania U21 national team. His contract with the Romanian Football Federation is ending. The federation is not expected to offer him an extension. This decision follows the team's failure to qualify for the EURO 2027 tournament.

Răzvan Burleanu has identified two candidates to take over the role. Mihai Stoichiță is considering potential replacements for the vacant position. Reports indicate that Adrian Mutu and Marius Măldărășanu are the names under discussion for the job.

Adrian Mutu has previous experience coaching the Romania U21 side. He managed the team from 2020 to 2021. During this period, he led the squad to the finals of UEFA Euro 2021. The team remained unbeaten in the group stage but did not advance further in the competition.

Victor Pițurcă has commented on the possibility of Mutu returning to the U21 setup. He expressed dissatisfaction with the potential move. Pițurcă stated that such a decision would mean Mutu did not follow his advice. The former coach had advised Mutu to join a better club before taking this role.
