Ultras from Marseille and AEK Athens allegedly searched hotels for Olympiacos fans on Wednesday evening. This activity took place before the scheduled Thursday 22:00 Europa League match between the clubs.
French authorities banned Olympiacos fans from entering the Stade Vélodrome. The ban also covered six zones in Marseille. It was in effect from October 14 at 08:00 until October 16 at 02:00 due to the risk of violence.
The DNLH classified the match between Marseille and Olympiacos at the maximum risk level. The rating was 5 out of 5 according to reports from sport.fr.
Olympiacos cancelled all tickets allocated to their fans. This included away seats priced at 15 euros and tickets in other zones priced at 49 euros. The club promised full refunds to affected supporters.
Olympiacos criticized the late notification of the ban. The club claimed the decision was not discussed in prior meetings with Marseille, UEFA, or local authorities.
Olympiacos requested that UEFA analyze the possibility of providing compensation to affected supporters. The request followed the last-minute decision to ban their fans from the area.
