Liviu Antal has announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of the current season. The 37-year-old Romanian forward said the decision was final, according to the cited reporting.
Antal shared the news with supporters through an announcement released by Žalgiris Vilnius. His final home match was listed for 18 October against Hegelmann.
The reports listed three remaining league matches: Hegelmann on 18 October, Kauno Žalgiris on 26 October and Banga on 8 November. They do not establish that Antal would skip the final two fixtures.
Antal became Žalgiris’ leading scorer, according to the reporting, which credited him with 110 goals and 26 assists in 212 appearances. He also won two league titles, a cup and a Supercup with the Lithuanian club.
In Romania, Antal won the league with Oțelul Galați in 2010–11 and finished as the domestic league’s leading scorer in 2013–14, with 15 goals for FC Vaslui.
Correction: the original report said Antal would not play in the final away games. That claim was not supported by the cited evidence and has been removed.
