Agent Victor Becali has launched a sharp critique against defender Vlad Chiricheș regarding the circumstances of his 2013 transfer to Tottenham. The dispute centers on who facilitated the move, with Chiricheș crediting Italian agent Pietro Chiodi while the Becali family claims responsibility.
Victor Becali expressed frustration at Chiricheș’s public statements. He recalled instances where the player sought help from him during his tenure at FCSB. Becali stated that Chiricheș cried in his office and asked him to intervene with club owner Gigi Becali.
The agent urged Chiricheș to remain silent on the matter. He characterized the defender’s actions as a semi-betrayal rather than a complete betrayal. This distinction suggests Becali views the incident as a breach of loyalty but not an irreparable one.
Giovanni Becali also contested Chiricheș’s version of events. He claimed that he was the individual who introduced the player to Tottenham officials. This account directly contradicts the narrative presented by Chiricheș.
Both Giovanni and Victor Becali accused Chiricheș of betrayal after he chose to work with Pietro Chiodi. This decision followed convictions related to the Transfer Dossier case. The Becalis view the collaboration with Chiodi as a slight against their efforts.
Vlad Chiricheș completed his move to Tottenham in August 2013. The transfer fee was approximately 10 million euros. This deal marked a significant step in the defender’s career, taking him from the Romanian league to the English Premier League.
During his time in London, Chiricheș made 43 appearances for the club. He scored two goals and provided one assist. His stint at Tottenham lasted until September 2019, covering several seasons under different managers.
After departing Tottenham, Chiricheș played for several Italian clubs. His career path included spells at Napoli, Sassuolo, and Cremonese. He eventually returned to FCSB, rejoining the club where he had previously served as captain.
