Demolition of the old Corvinul Hunedoara stadium began on October 12, 2026. The structure was originally built between 1957 and 1960. This clearance marks the first physical step toward replacing the historic venue with a modern facility.

A new stadium valued at 54 million euros is planned for the site. The project aims to deliver a modern arena with a capacity of over 10,000 seats. This development is intended to serve as a significant upgrade for football infrastructure in Hunedoara.

The demolition works cost approximately 1.5 million lei, excluding value added tax. These funds were provided by the local budget. This initial expenditure covers the removal of the existing structures to prepare the ground for new construction.

Hunedoara Municipality will contribute approximately 10.3 million euros to the overall project. This amount represents 25% of the total construction costs. The remaining funding required for the new stadium will be provided by the National Investment Company.

The new arena will have a specific capacity of 10,209 seats. The design includes a subsurface level, a ground floor, and three upper levels. This multi-level structure is intended to maximize spectator capacity and facility utility within the available footprint.

The project includes facilities designed for top-level football matches. These features include floodlights, video screens, and electronic scoreboards. Such equipment ensures the venue meets modern broadcasting and officiating standards for professional games.

The complex will feature locker rooms and medical spaces for athletes. It will also include conference halls, a boxing hall, and training rooms. These additions aim to create a multi-purpose sports hub rather than a standalone football pitch.

Plans for the site include a restaurant and commercial areas. An underground parking lot with 430 spaces is also part of the design. These amenities are intended to improve the experience for visitors and generate additional revenue streams.

Mayor Dan Bobouțanu stated that modernizing the old arena would have been costly. He noted that such renovations would have yielded unsatisfactory results. This rationale supports the decision to demolish the existing structure rather than attempt to refurbish it.
