Farul Constanța took an early lead against Petrolul Ploiești thanks to a goal from Cristi Ganea in the fifth minute. The 34-year-old player broke the deadlock shortly after the match began, putting his team ahead on the scoreboard.
The goal came from a difficult angle and featured a left-footed volley. The ball struck the crossbar before dropping into the net, deceiving Petrolul goalkeeper Lukas Zima. Ionuț Vînă provided the assist for the strike.
Observers compared the execution to a famous goal scored by Roberto Carlos for Real Madrid. The Brazilian defender scored a similar long-range strike against Tenerife in February 1998. That match ended in a 4-3 victory for Real Madrid.
The shot caused visible frustration for Petrolul coach Ricardo Sousa. Sousa started Lukas Zima in goal for the match. On the other side, Farul was managed by Ioan Ovidiu Sabău, who included both R. Munteanu and Ganea in his starting lineup.
This marked the first goal of the season for Ganea in five matches played for Farul. He had previously contributed to the attack with an assist in a 4-2 result against UTA Arad. The latest performance added a direct goal to his recent contributions.
