The Bucharest Tribunal has set October 21, 2026, as the start date for the trial in the 'Pyro Rapid' case. The proceedings are scheduled to begin at 12:00. This development marks the next major step in a legal matter that has involved high-profile figures associated with Rapid București.

There are 15 defendants facing charges in this case. Among them are Liviu Ungurean, known by the nickname 'Bocciu', and Daniel Niculae, the former president of Rapid. Both men hold significant positions within the club's recent history, with Ungurean recognized as a gallery leader and Niculae having served in the club's executive leadership.

Prosecutors accuse the defendants of forming an organized criminal group. The charges also include illegal pyrotechnic operations. These alleged activities took place between September 1, 2023, and March 13, 2024. The timeframe covers several months of domestic football competitions.

Daniel Niculae faces specific accusations related to his role. He is charged with forming an organized criminal group. He is also accused of complicity in illegal pyrotechnic operations. Niculae has denied these accusations. He claims he had no direct involvement in the acts under investigation.

Liviu Ungurean faces a broader set of charges. He is accused of forming an organized criminal group and engaging in illegal pyrotechnics. Additional charges include complicity to destruction and usury. These allegations suggest a range of illicit activities beyond the use of fireworks at matches.

Prosecutors allege that the group used pyrotechnics during Rapid matches. This behavior reportedly disturbed public order. It also caused damage to the stadium playing surfaces. The impact on the pitch and the safety of spectators form part of the basis for the charges.

An indictment details items seized during the investigation. The list includes 102 stroboscopes and 140 flash bangers. Various other pyrotechnic articles were also confiscated. These items serve as physical evidence in the case against the defendants.

The investigation uncovered other serious incidents. On March 14, 2024, a defendant was caught possessing four shotguns and 24 cartridges. A rubber bullet pistol was also found in their possession. This event occurred shortly after the period cited for the pyrotechnic operations.

Financial crimes are also part of the allegations. A defendant allegedly lent 1,145,850 lei, 30,100 Euro, and 60,000 Pounds. Prosecutors claim extra sums were gained through interest on these loans. This aspect of the case relates to the charge of usury brought against some defendants.
