Bucharest City Hall has launched a tender worth 1.3 million euro to purchase and install a new video cube at Arena Națională. The local authority seeks to replace the existing display system before the stadium hosts the 2028 UEFA Europa League Final.
Mayor Ciprian Ciucu stated that the stadium must be ready by spring 2028. This timeline aligns with the schedule for the upcoming European club competition final.
The UEFA Executive Committee confirmed on September 15 that Bucharest will host the 2028 UEFA Europa League Final. The decision brings the prestigious match back to the Romanian capital.
Arena Națională is set to host the 2028 final. This event will take place 16 years after the venue hosted the 2012 UEFA final.
The stadium has a recent history of hosting major tournaments. It served as a venue for EURO 2020, the EURO U21 championship in 2023, and the EURO U19 tournament in 2025.
Inspections conducted in September 2022 and April 2023 identified significant defects in the LED screens of the current video cube. These reports highlighted the deteriorating condition of the existing equipment.
The current LED screen system at Arena Națională is more than 11 years old. The age of the technology contributed to the decision to seek a replacement.
The installation of the new scoreboard is expected to require approximately 120 days. This duration accounts for the removal of the old structure and the setup of the new unit.
The specifications for the new video cube include two sides measuring 15.32 by 12.76 meters. The other two sides will measure 13.42 by 10.86 meters.
The tender requires a minimum total LED screen surface area of 200 square meters. This ensures the new display meets modern standards for visibility and resolution.
