FC Botoșani suffered a 1-3 defeat against Petrolul at home during the 13th round of the Superliga regular season on Friday, October 23. Following the match, head coach Marius Croitoru addressed the media and admitted that the club is facing internal problems.
Croitoru took full responsibility for the poor performance, stating that the blame lies with him rather than the players. He noted that this result marked a second consecutive loss for the team, following a previous 0-2 defeat away to Dinamo. The coach emphasized that while there are internal issues, the players gave their best effort under the circumstances.
The Botoșani manager praised the opposition, acknowledging that Petrolul was superior in all aspects of the game. He congratulated the visiting team for their performance, describing the match as a lesson for both himself and his squad. Croitoru also expressed gratitude to the fans who supported the team despite the difficult scoreline.
On the other side, Petrolul coach Ricardo Sousa expressed satisfaction with his team's display of quality and personality. Sousa revealed that he had made a bet with his players to finish the calendar year in fourth place in the league standings. He stated that the team needs two more victories to achieve this specific objective.
Currently, Petrolul sits with 23 points, trailing league leaders Dinamo București by six points. FC Botoșani remains in 11th position with 14 points accumulated so far in the season. Sousa commented on external perceptions, noting that some critics had predicted a decline for his team, but the recent results demonstrated their resilience.
