FK Csikszereda has initiated legal action against the Romanian Football Federation and the Professional Football League. The club filed two separate cases with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. This move follows a series of disciplinary sanctions related to the display of national symbols at matches.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has set the date for the hearings. The sessions are scheduled to take place on November 12, 2026. These proceedings will address the penalties imposed on the club for its actions during the previous campaign.

The dispute centers on fines issued for displaying Szekler and Hungarian national symbols. These incidents occurred during Superliga matches in the last season. The club maintains that the sanctions were unjustified and is seeking to overturn them through this international arbitration process.

Club president Zoltan Szondy provided details on the frequency of the punishments. He stated that the FRF Discipline Commission sanctioned FK Csikszereda seven times during the 2025-2026 season. This high number of disciplinary actions formed the basis for the club's decision to escalate the matter.

The financial impact of these sanctions was significant for the club. The total fines from the FRF approached 104,000 lei. This amount is equivalent to approximately 20,500 euros. The club views this sum as excessive given the nature of the infractions.

In addition to football federation penalties, the club faced legal action from state authorities. The Gendarmerie fined FK Csikszereda 30,000 lei. This penalty was issued after their 2-1 win against Universitatea Cluj on October 4, 2025. The fine was related to the same issues surrounding flag displays.

Szondy criticized the leadership of the Professional Football League. He accused LPF president Gino Iorgulescu of displaying an anti-Hungarian attitude. The club president also alleged that double standards were applied in the enforcement of regulations. These claims suggest a broader grievance beyond the specific fines.

To support his argument regarding inconsistent treatment, Szondy pointed to other incidents in the league. He cited a match between Dinamo București and Universitatea Craiova. According to Szondy, that game involved racist chants and objects thrown at a Hungarian referee. He implied that such events did not result in comparable scrutiny or punishment.
