UEFA has announced the refereeing appointments for upcoming European fixtures involving Croatian clubs. Australian official Jarred Gillett is set to take charge of HNK Hajduk Split's away match against Swiss side Thun. This assignment follows Hajduk's previous victory over Ajax in the Conference League.
Gillett is known to Croatian football fans for his role as the VAR official during the World Cup match between Portugal and Croatia. In that contest, Portugal secured a 2-1 victory. The match was marked by a controversial incident involving Igor Matanović, where a marginal offside call led to the disallowance of a goal by Joško Gvardiol that would have sent the game into extra time.
For the fixture in Switzerland, Gillett will be assisted by Neil Davies and Nick Greenhalgh. Farai Hallam has been named as the fourth official. The video assistant referee team will consist of Peter Bankes as VAR and James Bell as the assistant VAR.
Meanwhile, GNK Dinamo Zagreb will host NEC in the third round of their European campaign. Lithuanian referee Manfredas Lukjančukas has been assigned to officiate this match. According to reports, Lukjančukas has not previously officiated any matches involving the Croatian national team or Croatian clubs.
Lukjančukas will be supported by assistants Mangirdas Mirauskas and Aleksandras Stepanovas. Vilius Paulauskas will serve as the fourth official at Maksimir Stadium. The VAR duties for this match have been allocated to Austrian official Manuel Schuettengruber, with Orestas Abramavicius acting as the assistant VAR.
