Timi Max Elšnik has ended a goal drought lasting more than six months by scoring twice in the space of one week. The Football Association of Slovenia reported that the midfielder found the net in two separate matches for Crvena zvezda during this period, despite scoring not being his primary responsibility on the pitch.
Elšnik’s first goal of this recent run came in the UEFA Conference League. He scored an equalizer in the 32nd minute to level the match at 1-1 against Lugano. However, Crvena zvezda ultimately lost the first-round tie 3-2 after the Swiss side staged a late comeback.
The second goal arrived in domestic league action. Crvena zvezda defeated Mladost 5-1, with Elšnik scoring the final goal of the match. This strike confirmed his return to form after the extended period without a goal.
In Switzerland, Žan Celar continued his productive start to the season. The 27-year-old striker scored his eighth goal of the campaign to help Basel overcome a cup obstacle. His contribution was vital in securing progress for the club in the domestic cup competition.
Basel won their away cup fixture in Nyon by a score of 3-0. Celar scored the second goal of the game. This latest strike brought his total to eight goals in twelve matches across all competitions, establishing him as the top scorer for Basel.
