The Slovenia U17 national team is set to play Moldova in the second round of the UEFA Euro 2027 qualifying tournament. The match is scheduled for Monday at 12:00 Slovenian time.
Goran Cvijanović serves as the head coach of the Slovenia U17 squad. He leads the team into this crucial fixture following a difficult start to the campaign.
Both Slovenia and Moldova enter this match with zero points after losing their opening games in the autumn qualifying tournament for Euro 2027. A result is essential for both sides to remain competitive in the group.
Moldova suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Czech Republic in Chișinău during the first round of qualifiers. This loss places pressure on the hosts to secure a positive result in their next outing.
Slovenia also lost their opening match, falling to Belarus. Aron Vučić scored a penalty in the 21st minute to equalize the score at 1-1, giving his team hope midway through the first half.
However, Belarus scored two additional goals late in the match against Slovenia. These late strikes secured three points for the opposition and left Slovenia searching for answers.
Coach Goran Cvijanović stated that the team's only goal is victory in the upcoming match. He noted that Moldova's playing style is similar to that of Belarus but described it as more defensive.
The match against Moldova will be played at Zimbru Stadium in Chișinău. The venue hosted Moldova's previous qualifier against the Czech Republic.
Aron Vučić, who scored for Slovenia in their opener, plays for Koper. His contribution from the penalty spot was a highlight in an otherwise challenging match for the Slovenians.
Niko Mezga is another player in the setup who plays for Sturm Graz in Austria. The squad includes talent from both domestic and foreign clubs as they navigate the qualifying stage.
