Marko Arnautović arrived at Red Star Belgrade with expectations of becoming a leader, but reports suggest he is currently far from fulfilling that role. The Austrian forward has reportedly lost his status as the team's primary striker, with his current form described as well below expectations.
Despite scoring four goals this season, the quality of these contributions has been questioned. Two of his goals came against Larn from Northern Ireland, and another was scored against Radnički Kragujevac at a time when the outcome of the match was already determined. However, he did receive praise for his performance in a 3-0 win over Radnički Niš, where he scored the opening goal in a 1-0 lead that paved the way for victory and provided an assist for Abu Fani.
A recent match against Mladost Lučani highlighted his inconsistencies. Starting from the first minute under coach Albert Riera, who changed the entire starting lineup compared to the previous match in Lugano, Arnautović had a clear opportunity in the 19th minute. Following a short rebound from Željko Samčović off a shot by Mohamed Čama, the former Inter striker failed to give Red Star the lead, sending the ball high over the goal from just six meters out. This miss was described as likely one of the biggest of his career.
Arnautović managed to redeem himself early in the second half of the same match. From a nearly identical situation involving a shot by Balov and another short rebound by Samčović, he reached the ball before Joksimović and scored to put Red Star ahead 2-0. Aleksandar Katai had previously scored before halftime to open the account.
