Bulgarian football calendar: how the season fits together

First League in 2026–27: the league programme, season stages and how to read fixture dates alongside cup and European commitments.

Season 2026–27 · Reviewed

The league programme

The Bulgarian federation, professional league and clubs agreed an opening weekend of 18–19 July 2026 and a spring restart on 13–14 February 2027. These are the framework dates from the league’s January announcement, not a guarantee that every fixture in a round is played on Saturday or Sunday.

How the season is divided

The 2026–27 regulations use fourteen clubs and 26 regular-season rounds. The table then separates into championship, European-place and survival groups. The top two groups add six matches per club; the survival group adds five. Clubs in different groups consequently do not have identical season totals.

What to check before following a fixture

The league’s announcement explains that reducing the number of clubs helps reduce midweek rounds and frees a weekend for the Bulgarian Cup. Cup dates and league rounds must still be read as different competitions. Use BFU’s current calendar for revisions and individual appointments.
