FK Železiarne Podbrezová dismissed head coach Štefan Markulík on Thursday, according to reports. The club immediately appointed assistant coach Boris Godál as the interim manager for a period of no more than three weeks.

Godál acknowledged that he does not possess the required coaching license and will not be eligible to obtain one for a significant period. Despite this regulatory hurdle, general manager Miroslav Poliaček confirmed the temporary nature of the role while suggesting Godál could potentially lead the first team in the long term.

The decision followed declared dissatisfaction from club management regarding the team's playing style. Markulík had previously admitted to struggles in the attacking third of the field. Godál expressed regret over the conclusion of their partnership, praising Markulík as a great coach and expert from whom he learned significantly.

The new interim manager faces an immediate test as Podbrezová prepares to face Michalovce. The opponents are noted for their offensive approach at home, which Godál suggested might suit his team's style as they look to overcome recent performance blocks.
