Sorin Bucuroaia has officially been presented as the new head coach of FC Păușești Otăsău, marking a significant step in his managerial career within the Romanian football pyramid. The appointment comes shortly after his departure from FCSB, one of the country's most prominent clubs, signaling a shift in focus toward the challenges of Liga 3. This move places Bucuroaia in charge of a team that is currently navigating the competitive landscape of the third tier, where he will aim to build upon the foundation already established by previous staff members.
The decision to bring in Bucuroaia follows a period of transition for the club, which had previously benefited from his expertise during an earlier stint with the team. Before joining FCSB, Bucuroaia played a pivotal role in guiding FC Păușești Otăsău through a successful promotion campaign, moving the club from Liga IV up to Liga III. His previous tenure was characterized by tangible results, including securing the Vâlcea county Cup of Romania, which demonstrated his ability to manage resources effectively and achieve local dominance before aiming for higher divisions.
In addition to his domestic cup successes, Bucuroaia also led FC Păușești Otăsău to victory in the regional stage of the Cup of Romania. This achievement highlights his capability to perform under pressure in knockout competitions, a skill set that will be crucial as the team continues its pursuit of silverware in the current season. The return of a manager with such a proven track record at the club suggests that the board and supporters have high expectations for his second spell in charge, particularly given the historical context of his previous contributions to the team's growth.
Bucuroaia’s managerial journey includes significant experience at other clubs in the region, having served as head coach at CSM Râmnicu Vâlcea and FC Speranța. These roles have allowed him to develop a broad understanding of the lower tiers of Romanian football, managing teams with varying levels of infrastructure and support. His time at these institutions contributed to his reputation as a dedicated coach capable of stabilizing squads and improving performance metrics, making him a suitable candidate to lead FC Păușești Otăsău through the rigors of Liga 3 competition.
Prior to his recent appointment at Păușești Otăsău, Bucuroaia gained valuable experience as an assistant coach at FC Vâlcea under Marius Baciu. He served in this capacity from October 2024 to December 2025, a period that saw the club achieve promotion to Liga 3. Working closely with Baciu, Bucuroaia contributed to the strategic planning and tactical adjustments that were instrumental in securing this promotion, further refining his coaching philosophy and deepening his knowledge of the specific demands of the third division.
As he takes on the head coach role at FC Păușești Otăsău, Bucuroaia inherits a squad that is currently positioned in the middle of the table. After seven matches in Liga 3, the club sits in eighth place in Series 6, accumulating eight points. This mid-table standing indicates that the team has shown competitiveness but has yet to secure a consistent run of form that would place them in contention for the top spots or relegation battles. The new manager will need to assess the current squad dynamics and implement changes quickly to improve their standing in the series.
Bucuroaia’s first match in charge will serve as a critical test of his early strategies and tactics. He makes his debut on Saturday against CS Drobeta Turnu Severin, a formidable opponent that currently leads the series with 16 points. Facing the league leaders provides an immediate opportunity for the new coach to gauge his team’s resilience and adaptability against high-quality opposition. A positive result in this fixture could provide a significant boost to morale and establish a strong foundation for the remainder of the season.
